Alice And Steve starring Nicola Walker And Jemaine Clement

What happens when your lifelong best friend starts dating your twenty-something daughter? That's the deliciously awkward premise of Disney+'s new comedy-drama Alice and Steve.

Starring Nicola Walker and Jemaine Clement, the six-part series follows two lifelong friends in their fifties whose friendship begins to unravel, with their escalating feud threatening everything they hold dear.

Alice (Nicola Walker), a successful but self-centred fashion designer, has been best friends with Steve (Jemaine Clement), a celebrity hairdresser struggling after his recent divorce, ever since they met at university.

After a night out surrounded by people half their age, Steve crashes on Alice’s sofa for the night, before bumping into Alice's recently dumped 20-something year old daughter, Izzy. The pair hit it off instantly, and what begins as an unexpected attraction soon develops into a serious relationship. Much to Alice's annoyance, they go on to start dating and things start to get pretty serious.

Apart from the fact that the relationship is just a bit icky, Steve and Izzy actually make a sweet couple, despite the 30 year age gap - much to Alice's horror. Repulsed by the relationship, Alice embarks on an increasingly outrageous campaign to break the couple apart, sabotaging Steve's career and even depriving him of one of his greatest joys - his beloved dog. Steve retaliates in kind, sparking an escalating war of petty revenge that quickly spirals out of control.

The series is created and written by Sophie Goodhart, previously responsible for episodes of Sex Education and Rivals.

Nicola and Jamaine both spoke to Radio Times and made it clear they're hoping for a second series. The series ends on a rather large cliff hanger, and depending on how this series is received, we might just see the two BFF's reunite for round two.
