The Dark - Coming Soon to ITV1 and ITVX

ITV has released first-look images from upcoming thriller The Dark, a new six-part crime drama adapted from GR Halliday's bestselling novel From the Shadows.

Set in the idyllic Scottish countryside, the body of a young man is found. Detective Monica Kennedy fears this is the work of a serial killer, and as paranoia rises, suspicions and secrets only grow as locals start to realise there's a serial killer hidden amongst them.

As the investigation unfolds, Kennedy must race to identify the killer before more lives are lost.

The dramatic new footage and stills released by ITV reveal detectives working against the clock..."We have, what, ten hours? To identify his next victim," says the voice of Kennedy in their newly-released trailer.

Is it Based on a Book?

Yes, The Dark is based on the 2020 bestselling novel 'From the Shadows' written by GR Halliday. Edinburgh-born Halliday wrote the book as the first in a trilogy about “Seven days. Four deaths. One chance to catch a killer.”

The mystery is described as perfect for fans of the likes of Ann Cleeves’ Vera, Susie Steiner and Peter May.

Who Stars in ITV's The Dark?

The new six-part drama is led by Belfast-born actress Laura Donnelly (Outlander, The Nevers) as Detective Inspector Monica Kennedy. The Dark also stars Helen Baxendale (Friends, Cold Feet, Death in Paradise, Midsomer Murders).

Additional cast for this series also includes Emun Elliott (The Gold), Cal MacAninch (Silent Witness), Stella Gonet (Professor T), Phil McKee (Deadwater Fell), Tunji Kasim (Shetland), and Catherine McCormack (A Thousand Blows).

How many episodes will there be?

The Dark consists of six episodes, each approximately an hour long.

Where Was it Filmed?

Filming for The Dark took place across Glasgow city centre. Cast and crew were also seen filming scenes in Greenock and other rural areas across Scotland.

When Will it Air?

The broadcaster has released that it’s coming “soon”, although ITV is yet to confirm a transmission date.

The Dark will be available to stream on ITV and ITVX, as well as STV and STV Player in Scotland.
