Vigil Series 3: BBC releases first trailer as Suranne Jones returns

The BBC has unveiled the first teaser for the highly anticipated third series of Vigil, giving fans their first glimpse at Suranne Jones and Rose Leslie's return as detectives Amy Silva and Kirsten Longacre.

Made by World Productions (Line of Duty, Until I Kill You, Showtrial) and part of ITV Studios, the third series of Vigil was filmed across Svalbard and Scotland last year.
The tense teaser offers glimpses of the frozen Arctic landscape, armed military personnel and another dangerous investigation that appears to be Vigil's biggest mission yet.
This time, Amy Silva and Kirsten Longacre are dispatched to a remote Arctic research station after a covert British special forces operative is shot dead. With everyone at the isolated base a potential suspect, the detectives must uncover the truth before international tensions escalate.

A synopsis for the series reads: 'Amy and Kirsten will need to catch the killer and defuse a potential international confrontation, driven by a land-grab for energy and resources in the changing polar climate, with both their careers and relationship on the line.'
Suranne said: "I can't wait to return to Vigil series three, see our brilliant team in Scotland and work with Rose again. I'm sure it will be a thrill of a ride."
Rose added: "I can’t wait to get stuck into another season of Vigil, to work with the wonderful Suranne Jones again and our brilliant crew. And this time, Kirsten will get to pack her bags and join Amy on what's set to be Vigil's most high-stakes mission yet!"
What are Series 1 and 2 about?
Without any spoilers here - Series 1 of Vigil sees DCI Amy Silva (Suranne Jones) dispatched to investigate the suspicious death of a crewman aboard a nuclear submarine - HMS Vigil. Whilst she's trapped underwater dealing with a hostile crew and a potential onboard killer, her partner, DS Kirsten Longacre (Rose Leslie), investigates a related cover-up on land.
Series 2 sees DCI Silva and DS Longacre investigate multiple unexplained deaths at a Scottish weapons test facility, involving prototype drones. The investigation forces them into the secretive, closed ranks of the Air Force, taking them from Scotland to the Middle East.
When will it be released?
The BBC are yet to announce an exact release date, although they have announced that it will return later this summer.
Vigil (6x60’) is made by World Productions in association with ITV Studios for the BBC. It is written and created by Tom Edge and produced by Marcus Wilson.
